Anker Innovations Issues Critical Recall for PowerCore 10000 (Model A1263) Due to Fire Hazard

Bangkok, Thailand – June 20, 2025 – Global charging technology leader Anker Innovations has announced a significant recall of its Anker PowerCore 10000 power banks, specifically Model A1263, citing a potential fire safety risk. This urgent notice, issued in conjunction with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), affects approximately 1.15 million units sold exclusively in the United States between June 1, 2016, and December 31, 2022.

The recall stems from identified issues with the lithium-ion batteries within these particular power banks. Anker has confirmed that the defect can lead to overheating, which may result in the melting of plastic components, emission of smoke, and in severe cases, fire. The company has received 19 reports of incidents, including fires and explosions, with two instances of minor burn injuries and over $60,700 in property damage reported to the CPSC.

For consumers, particularly those in the tech-savvy market, portable power banks have become indispensable tools for staying connected. However, this recall serves as a stark reminder of the inherent risks associated with lithium-ion battery technology when defects are present, underscoring the critical importance of product safety and rigorous quality control.

Identifying Affected Units and Taking Action

Anker Innovations is urging all U.S. customers who own an Anker PowerCore 10000 (Model A1263) to immediately verify if their unit is part of the recall. To do so, users should check the product information on the bottom of their device, confirming it states “Anker PowerCore 10000” with model number “A1263.” Special attention should be paid to the serial number, noting that characters like “0” (zero) and “O” (o), as well as “1” and “I” can be easily confused. Anker explicitly states that the characters “O” and “I” are not used in the serial numbers of the affected products.

Steps for affected customers:

1.) Verify Model and Serial Number: Confirm “Anker PowerCore 10000” and Model A1263 on the device’s bottom. Utilize Anker’s dedicated recall webpage to enter your serial number for verification. An order number, while helpful, is not mandatory for participation.

2.) Submit Recall Claim: If your unit is confirmed as part of the recall, submit a recall claim form. This requires your contact information, order number (if available), and two photos of the device: one clearly showing the model and serial numbers, and another of the power bank with the submission date and the word “recall” or “recalled” written on it in permanent marker. If the serial number is unreadable, contact Anker support for guidance.

3.) Immediately Stop Use: All confirmed affected units should be immediately disconnected from power and ceased from use.

4.) Safe Disposal: Crucially, customers are instructed not to dispose of the power bank until they receive confirmation from Anker that their unit qualifies for the recall. Once confirmed, the affected unit must be disposed of at a certified facility that accepts recalled lithium batteries. This means not throwing them in regular trash, general recycling bins, or common battery recycling boxes, as these recalled batteries pose a heightened fire risk. Consumers should contact their municipal household hazardous waste (HHW) collection center or municipality for guidance on proper disposal. Resources like the EPA website, Earth 911, and Call2Recycle can also assist in finding appropriate disposal locations in the U.S.

Upon successful claim submission and confirmation of disposal, Anker will ship a replacement power bank. Delivery times may vary based on the order of submission. While replacement colors may be limited, customers also have the option of receiving a $30 Anker Store gift card if a replacement power bank is temporarily unavailable.

Anker Innovations is reachable for further assistance at support@anker.com or by calling (800) 988-7973. Customers are advised to include “Anker A1263 Recall” in the email subject line for expedited service.

This recall highlights the ongoing challenges and responsibilities of electronics manufacturers in ensuring the safety of high-density battery products. For consumers, it serves as a vital reminder to always be vigilant about product recalls and to follow manufacturer guidelines diligently for safe usage and disposal.
