Thailand Condemns Unprovoked Cambodian Artillery Attack on Civilian Homes in Surin Province

“First, they attacked our homes with artillery. Then, they attacked the truth with lies. We will defend against both.”

BANGKOK, Thailand – July 27, 2025 – The Royal Thai Government today condemned an unprovoked heavy artillery attack by Cambodian armed forces against civilian homes in Surin Province, which occurred in the early hours of this morning. The Thai government has also accused Cambodia of launching a coordinated disinformation campaign to falsely portray Thailand as the aggressor.

The incident occurred at approximately 4:30 AM local time when Cambodian forces fired heavy artillery shells into Thai territory, directly impacting civilian residential areas.

“The true character of a nation is not revealed in its words of peace, but in where its artillery lands in the night.”

In a formal statement, the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs addressed the unprovoked attack and the subsequent Cambodian claims.

“Thailand condemns in the strongest terms this egregious and repeated violation of international law and calls on Cambodia to immediately cease attacking civilian targets,” the Ministry stated. “Any cessation of hostilities cannot be reached while Cambodia is severely lacking in good faith and repeatedly violating the basic principles of human rights and humanitarian law.”

The Ministry affirmed that Thailand is acting within its legal rights to protect its people and territory.

“Thailand reserves the inherent right to self defense enshrined in Article 51 of the UN Charter and has responded at limited military targets to neutralize the threats to our national sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

The Royal Thai Government is calling upon the global community to recognize the severity of Cambodia’s actions and join in their condemnation.
“We call on the international community to condemn these inhumane, reprehensible acts being committed by Cambodia which have no place in a rules-based international order,” the statement concluded.

“Peace is not broken by disagreement; it is shattered by artillery shells on sleeping homes.”

The Royal Thai Armed Forces remain on high alert to defend the nation’s sovereignty and protect the lives of Thai citizens. The government is pursuing all diplomatic channels to address this grave situation and hold Cambodia accountable for its actions.
